You must have done something right to land the position. Now, just try not to mess it up. Just kidding. It demonstrates that you are coachable. Seeking feedback takes all of the guesswork out of how so you can Ã¢â¬Å"wowÃ¢â¬ your boss. Feedback allows you to improve and learn how you can add value. As an inte rn, seeking feedback will communicate to your boss that you are highly self-aware and motivated to improve.Do clarify expectationsClarifying expectations is crucial as an intern. Telling the hiring team exactly what you want out of the internship is going to ensure that you are not coming to a job every day that you hate. No boss intentionally makes an internÃ¢â¬â¢s job miserable. The majority of the time an unfulfilling internship is a result of individuals not clarifying exactly what they want out of the job. If you want to get better at presentations, tell your boss that. They want to teach you about what you want to learn and more.DonÃ¢â¬â¢t gossipNot only is gossiping at work unprofessional, but it also creates a toxic environment.Ã Gossiping damages trust and will have your coworkers hesitant to share things with you. As an intern, you may hear your manager gossiping about others in the office, but that does not warrant you to join in. Avoid joining in on gossip, and en sure you are doing everything in your power to avoid being the target of gossip. Dressing appropriate, not oversharing, and being mindful of what you post on social media are all effective ways to avoid being the topic of workplace gossip.DonÃ¢â¬â¢t be dependentNo supervisor wants to apprehensively hand their intern a pile of work, worrying if it will actually get done or not. In the workplace today, task-oriented jobs are seizing to exist Ã¢â¬â and so are bosses who micromanage. Be confident in your abilities to complete a task, large or small. Use this time as an intern to be independent.DonÃ¢â¬â¢t neglect networkingOffering to take your other fellow interns to lunch during the week is a nice gesture, but not the key to getting yourself a full-time offer once your internship is up. ItÃ¢â¬â¢s crucial, as an intern, to network with the other full-time employees at the office. This could be your direct boss or other members of the full-time team. However, this does not mean to just have surface level relationships with a variety of people. The most useful networks are those with strong ties. Chinese History - Assignment Example Chinese wooden construction features one of the fundamental principles characterizing classical Chinese architecture, that is, the use of JIAN module. The latter bears some form of semblance of modular prefabrication concept used in modern architecture. Carpenters in traditional Chinese architecture used this module as a standard unit for construction of all buildings. The JIAN constituted a rectangular space characterized by the repetition of adjoining structural frames. Unlike the Chinese Script modular system, which, although old, can be described as contemporary architecture, Chinese wooden construction is much older. This system has been in existence for multiple millennia (Ledderose 103). A principal similarity, however, lies in the fact that both modular systems make use of repertoire, or repetitive utilization of standard units, in order to develop the whole. Both systems also constitute methods of mass production in the architectural realm, which apply intricate mathematical formulae and codification of measurement systems, to foster efficiency of large-scale construction. The distinctive difference is that Chinese Script is a form of architectural decoration, whereas Chinese wooden construction revolves around the creation of an actual building. In regard to development or creation, the Chinese Script begins with the basic elements or single strokes. These are the simplest units in a series, and constitute the character Ã¢â¬Å"transformationÃ¢â¬ (hua) and the character Ã¢â¬Å"supremeÃ¢â¬ (tai). These building blocks grow in complexity from the single stroke level, through the intermediate level, to the complex level featuring complete units of constituent characters. These components, also known as modules, make up interchangeable building units, which can be placed together in various combinations, to eventually create written characters or Ã¢â¬Å"Chinese ScriptÃ¢â¬ , which is still evident in modern Chinese buildings (Ledderose 10).

Critical on the book Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid - Research Paper Example We notice this trend of having an autobiographical base in nearly all of KincaidÃ¢â¬â¢s books, where stories have been taken from the writerÃ¢â¬â¢s own life. In the novel Ã¢â¬ËLucyÃ¢â¬â¢, we find the main protagonist is an immigrant who comes to United States form Antigua in West Indies, like Kincaid herself. When compared to KincaidÃ¢â¬â¢s other works we find that the chief character Lucy at nineteen is a slightly older character representation than the main characters in her previous works. This gives a more mature outlook to the novel which is interlaced with a cynical note. This work by Kincaid though retaining the piqued nature of her previous work Ã¢â¬ËA Small PlaceÃ¢â¬â¢(1988) does not have the surrealism and repetitive nature of the latter, making Ã¢â¬ËLucyÃ¢â¬â¢ a far simpler story to read. The novel is a journey where a young girl slowly transcends into a mature woman as she explores her feelings, her loneliness, her sexuality and her conflicts with her mo ther. This novel in a non-linear manner moves smoothly and effortlessly between the past and the present through various dreams, dialogues and flash backs and the whole book bears a testimony to the strength of KincaidÃ¢â¬â¢s narrative prowess. Like other American literatures based on the tales of immigration, this book too talks about the experiences of an immigrant who is new to the American way of life and is slowly adjusting to it. Identity crisis which forms a basis of many a colonial immigrant literature is not presented vividly here. Instead, we find this problem to be represented quite intrinsically in her relationships with her own country, her white employers and her new surroundings. Jamaica Kincaid was born in 1949 in Antigua in West Indies which was then under British colonial rule and her childhood was not a very happy one. However, at a very young age, she developed a liking for books and literature and soon this became an escape route for the young Jamaica

Marriage in Japan Why people get married? There would be many reasons; to save money, to escape from loneliness, to have a better life, and so on. But in most case people marry for love. Though it is almost always true, a married life is different between in the western culture and in Japan. A marriage in modern western culture is based on mutuality and companionship. In Western there is a tendency to be independent. Most college graduates live apart from their family and find an apartment near the working place. They have learned how to Ã ¡Ã °surviveÃ ¡Ã ± in single and marriage is an optional. However, a person in Japan who graduates from a college and has a job still lives with oneÃ ¡Ã ¯s family until one gets married, which means one keeps the parent-child relationship. Therefore it is hard for a Japanese man to learn to be independent. After he gets married, he now relies on his bride for having foods, doing laundry, and many other things. Takeo Doi explains it with the te rm of amae that means the seeking or causing of oneself to be loved, nurtured, and indulged. He says it is an active attempt to make oneself into a passive love object. One reason why a man continues depending on someone else is that he has been witnessed what his parents have been done and now he considers himself as a head of his own family. In case of woman, it is difficult to keep her job after the marriage, because she needs to take care of her child, which is considered to be a wifeÃ ¡Ã ¯s job. She has to do everything else except making money for the family, which makes her dependent on her husband who has the economic power. However in western culture, it is natural for both partners to have their own jobs and to be responsible for every single household job after marriage. Until recently it has been true in Japan but now it is changing. More women have their jobs rather than prepare to be a bride after the graduate. Sins of the Fathers: ManÃ¢â¬â¢s hubris vs. FateÃ¢â¬â¢s intervention in the Theban plays. The sins of the fathers in the Theban plays written by Sophocles, illustrates the conflicts between manÃ¢â¬â¢s actions against the power of unwritten law, the willingness to ignore the truth, the misused limits of free will, and the false notion of beating the ways of fate. The fathers, chronologically Lauis, Oedipus, and Creon all exemplify people who acted in ways to avoid the predestined fates set up on them for their own happiness. The first father, Lauis the king of Thebes is portrayed as a person who lets his hubris and ego attempt to rewrite his fate by not heading to the gods, letting lust control his mind and sacrificing others just for his own benefits. On the other hand Oedipus, the son of Lauis initially is contrasted as a man who tries to runs away from his fate to only fall back into the tracks of fate by his own actions.. Lastly Creon, the king after Oedipus brings downfall u pon his own house, by not knowing his limit to pride over his power as king and ego. His retaliation to the laws of the gods and his false believe of him being supreme welcomes death and destruction at his own household.
